Impacts of Media on Society
The term Media is
commonly used by people as to enlighten the moderation but I can prove impacts
badly on the society especially the electronic media. The term ‘Enlightened
Moderation’ has become a cliche, and it is the electronic media which
propagates this term quite shamelessly. The enlightened moderation shows us
awareness, understanding and freedom from prejudice and superstitions. But
media has its own way of interpreting this term lying at the base of present
ruling regime’s political agenda.
For some, the enlightened
moderation is reflected in the way you choose to dress up, consequently the
dress code (of ladies to be more precise and continues to shrink both in size
and content) considerably, flashing more and more skin. I mean we use to see
this kind of stuff on the satellite TV and even on the Indian channels, but
somehow it did not seem as odd as it does now when we see our own channels
reflecting a dress code that is just not ours, either ethnically or morally.
Our culture and custom question us and we find it hard to come up with a
convincing answer in the face of the present situation. Because media has put a
black veil before our eyes and we have become blind to observe the reality.
The complaints towards
media are not surfacing only with regard to the dress code reflected in the
name of enlightened moderation, but the content or subject matters of all
programs like talk shows, music shows, life styles programs or even
advertisements, seem to have taken a bold step forward. The culture and moderation
have not given any license to media to drive the people towards darkness. But
surprisingly, a majority of young generation is not ready to follow our own
culture and tradition because the electronic media is trying to force down
their throats. It is really disgusting to see our anchor persons desperately
trying to copy styles, but it is even more disheartening to see that some of
the top notch teenage idols making such outlandish videos in the name ‘Modernism’
. I mean what is the point in claiming to be Pakistani when they have all but
enrobed themselves in foreign, mostly in Indian guise? Have they thought of
what impact it might have on the large fan following they behave garnered over
the years? “If you are propagating this trend in the modernism or universalism,
you need to think again, think hard and think fast!” While an extremely rash
attitude is adopted by the media in the name of enlightened moderation, and no
one seems to know where we are headed.
Telling about Print
Media, it also contains some harmful aspects. Some newspapers lower their moral
tone in order to appeal to the low sentiments of the readers. Further, because each newspaper is attached
to particular party, it takes one-sided view of every matter thus encouraging
party bitterness. In Pakistan at present some newspapers are doing a great
mischief. They contain poisonous propaganda intended to spread provincial
disunity. Indeed, the press should fully recognize its duties and
responsibilities. The press should do its professional duty with just, honor
and honesty.
Actually we have made
ourselves totally dependent of these things. We can’t live even a minute
without them. But we should not stop our lives whether these things exist or
not. Our age, above all, is the age of speed. From a snail’s speed we have
risen to a bird’s speed and from a bird’s speed we have gone to a ‘Meteoric’
one, because we are the one who can’t only transfer the impossibilities into
possibilities and but also can transfer the possibilities into actualities,
then there would be no reason why we let ourselves be bound to this
neck-breaking Media which has not any concrete shape without our importance and
support.
